American Cancer Society Mardi Gras

View from the Bay“Mardi Gras: Masks, Music & Mission” let the good times roll at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville. The mid-February gala benefiting the American Cancer Society drew nearly 400 celebrants and raised over $200,000. The festivities included signature Cajun/Creole dishes, tasty libations, fortune tellers, games of chance, dancing, live entertainment, zydeco rhythms, a silent auction live auction and more.

As co-chair for the Public Relations Committee, The Fire Chief negotiated and secured a relationship with Alameda Publishing Group to partner as the media sponsor in their category. In addition to garnering press in local publications and other media, she also produced and directed a video compiling the stories of the honorees, which was shown at the event.

Other projects included editing materials for the event, putting together the presentation of the program, hiring and managing the audio/visual company for the event, overseeing all presentations and bringing in the emcee for the event, Tom Vacar of KTVU FOX News Channel 2. Thinking on your feet and being able to handle even a minor crisis is important for all PR professionals. During the presentation, Lynette and Tom had to go behind the scenes and re-write part of the evening’s script when the CEO of the American Cancer Society wanted to speak.

Entrez! Open House

Grand Opening Collage for Entrez! Open HouseEntrez! Open House is a colorful furniture, housewares and gift boutique, featuring high-end European design companies and locally-designed and produced goods. Marie Deleris, owner and operator originally came to the United States from Paris and was an attorney. Her reason for being here was to improve her English skills. Well, she never went back! Instead, she became a vibrant part of our workforce as an entrepreneur. Her story was really interesting and we decided to use that as leverage for her grand opening, for which we were hired to bring awareness in Walnut Creek. It worked.

Honored to work for such an amazing woman, we also worked to raise awareness around her store by attending several networking and chamber events in the area. We also worked to increase demand for Entrez! Open House through additional publicity efforts surrounding store events, and by garnering additional press, as she and her store were unique. We also worked on getting press for the four-year anniversary for her store in Oakland.

Eat My Words

Word-of-mouth and introductions have led us down a path of success and the start of Firetalker PR began with an introduction to Alexandra, as she is a naming pro. The idea was to stand apart from the rest and be able to express our uniqueness, and what sets us apart from the rest. She did an amazing job in naming the company, creating the tagline, my title–the works.

Currently, we are working with Alexandra to bring her continued exposure through speaking engagements, on-going publicity with various media, along with a few other projects we have lit a match to.

Butters Canyon Conservancy

Part of what grounds Lynette is to actively give back to the community. She has a connection to the earth she serves through protecting it. For over three years she has been part of the Butters Canyon Conservancy (a land trust; the last wild canyon in the Oakland Hills) and sits on the Board of Directors as Communications Director.

During her tenure she has created the Celebrity Bartender and Silent Auction Night, a fundraising event which for three years was the main source of income for the conservancy outside of personal donations. It was held at the Montclair Bistro in Montclair Oakland. What started out as a test grew into an event held every year with proceeds doubling every year. Jean Quan, now Oakland Mayor was the first Celebrity Bartender followed by Sports Writer and Radio and Television personality Monte Poole was the second year followed by Libby Schaaf, Councilperson for District 4 in Oakland, California. Lynette creates collateral, website content, has created and edited the newsletter for three years and has set up interviews with the press that have turned into several articles written.
